Birds and music
So today I discovered that Gandalf really likes Johnny Cash. I was listening to music as I was getting ready for work and I noticed that he had suddenly become very quiet. I looked over, and the little fluff ball was just standing there, bobbing his head to the music. I'll have to try and get him to do it again tonight and put it on video, it was quite funny. He also really likes classical music. Usually if I put some on, he will calm right down and visibly relax.
Do your birds respond to music? If so, what kinds?

Tango was introduced to Pink Floyd by my husband. He does relax a bit, but he goes bonkers for youtube video's of different birds doing their own tunes..

Sammy likes rock too. Maybe it appeals to the love attitude?
In the car he'll also sing along to some poppy stuff (especially Rhianna and Alexander Burke type stuff).

Thanks Lee for the adorable sig!

Hanson and company seem to mellow with Country music and become more active with Adult contemporary music.
I try to rotate music stations to give Hanson and his birdy buddies a musical variety.

Ollie and Muffin listen to classical music all day!! Some of the Cable TV commercials also get their attention. Traveler's insurance has several about a little white fluffy dog who does lots of tricks, and they love the music that is played during these commercials. And Fed Ex has a commercial that has the sounds of birds chirping and that really gets their attention!! And they also really like to listen to my piano music!! I play the piano for them quite often.

Gotye - Somebody That I Used to Know is a favorite of both birds. My husband plays Adele for Twitter, but Earl is a huge Jay-Z fan . Twitter does sing along to "Sympathy for the Devil" (bet you didn't know the words were "Coo-cooo... Coo-cooo") and "Who Are You?" (Cooo Are you? Coo coo...coo..coo...).

Twitter - Diamond Dove
Earl - Budgie
Rorschach - Kitty
Marco (Polo) - Russian Tortoise

My boy Mumble LOVES anything fast, fun, and loud. Especially The Wanted and Katy Perry. But he will whistle as loud as he can for the whole entire song- from the second it starts to right when it ends. But his favorite song is Moves Like Jagger by Maroon 5- he even tries to do the whistle with the song.

Yes, I hesitated to write because I thought everyone would think I was nuts. I had an African Grey that loved Dean Martin. I couldn't believe my ears, but he was whistling in tune with Dean singing in a movie. If he got off he would stop, listen and pick it up again. I was amazed and still am. Pepe does some of the wild bird calls and I really need to play more music more often, but he did pick up on two TV commercials.

My first sparrow loved Neil Diamond.
My cockatiel Misty loves the Andy Griffith theme.

Instead of turning the tv on when John got home from work, he decided he was going to play some music he had downloaded on his MP3. It started with America's, A Horse With No Name, then the Beatles, While My Guitar Gently Weeps. Tango was going crazy. I wish I had my camera out, because he was hammering on his food cup while the Beatles were playing.

Re: Birds and music
My prior Cockatiel (Mozart) loved Maria Callas above all else. He passed away this last Spring after 17 happy years.
My current big bird is a Congo African Grey, and he is only four months old.
Since i play music all day, every day, I already notice he does not care for complex music. Simple is good. Beethoven piano sonatas, Jazz trios are fine. The heavy stuff he starts twitching..oddly.
So I have been trying to keep it simple, at least until he becomes more accustomed to hearing music all the time. I have only had him six days.

When we are home we are usually listening to the radio. When we are not home, we put on this nature soundtrack titles "Happy Budgies" for our budgies to listen to until we get back home. They love it! As for when we are listening to the radio or iTunes suffle, the start head bobbing to Megadeth, Judas Priest, Def Leppard, Ozzy, Quiet Riot, and KISS. They are little metal heads!
If anyone has budgies and wants to have a listen to the "Happy Budgies" soundtrack, here is the link: http://www.listeningearth.com/LE/product.php?id=23
