    indian ringnecks??????????

Hi, we just recently rescued a pair of indian ringnecks, when we brought them home the female was in a really bad mood and the previous owner said that she had always been a cranky bird but i checked her over recieving a few bites lol and her legband was so tight it had her ankle swollen really bad, so we took her and had it removed, she instantly became less cranky and handleable. but now the male has begun plucking her tailfeathers off, he does not pluck himself just her and no where else on her just has removed all of her long tail feathers and about half of the medium length ones so far? can anyone tell me why he is doing this? do I need to take them apart from each other? he doesnt seem to hater her or anything, he goes brings her food and feeds her, he snuggles beside her and whisper babbles to her, does nothing else that is mean other than pulling her tail out. he just started doing this a few days after her band was removed...... plz help..

I don't know much about the type of bird you have, have only seen them in a store once, and found them to be very attractive birds. For some reason, they don't seem to be carried in pet stores where I live.

I'm hopeful that "Pat" (DesertDweller) will stop by and read your post. She has a pair of Indian Ringnecks, and has alot of experience working in a pet shop with birds, so hopefully she would be able to answer your questions. Personally, I don't have any experience with them to give any opinions or info. And hopefully others will see your post and respond too!

i'll keep my fingers crossed that someone may know if its just him over preening cause he is ready to try to breed or if he is just going a little nuts.
