This is possibly a male, and it is a white faced pied.

    Agreed Whiteface Pied.
And by guess work it maybe a male.
Behavior may give you some clues, but DNA testing is the only safe way, unless you get eggs.

Definitely it should be a male if your bird talks too much!

It is a white faced pied . . . "gorgeous" little tiel! As Clive said, you may have to have it DNA sexed to be sure it is a male. All tiels are hard to determine the sex, especially pieds.

    Hi Arfat.
It maybe best to start your own thread to ask this question. As more people should see it.

    As for guessing sex?
Could be either sex and I am certainly would not like to throw a guess in from this pic.
I am not even sure what the mutation is. Other than Whiteface.

Re: Is this White Face Cockatiel a girl or boy?

I feel it is a white face cinnamon pied, because I am seeing yellow feathers in the tail feathers. I had made some comments about mutations on the thread with pictures you have posted. It could be a female, because I see some tail feathers with bars growing into the tail area. But a DNA test would be appropriate to find out for sure. How old is this tiel?

still looks very young ..... I see yellowing too not sure if its feathers or lighting though in another picture on the home page it looks pearl ....

I have a white face cinnamon female and her tail looks nothing like that one ... I did read if you gently spread the birds wing and check the primary flights closest the body if there is spots its a female no spots its male .... the only way to be sure though is a DNA test

just a quick question is the birds nare blocked? or are my eyes just too tired ....

Re: Is this White Face Cockatiel a girl or boy?

My hen tiel, Ollie, that I had for a few years, had beautiful "underwings". Like "lace" designs on the wings. I have read that may indicate a female, however, with pieds, I would want the DNA test to be sure, or to wait until about a year old when they have the first hard molt and replace all their feathering. From what I've read, generally, at that time one can identify the sex of the bird.

Leia is starting her 1 year molt and getting some beautiful lace on her underwing feathers and just above her tail you can't see it unless she does her super bird stretch..... Storm is getting a lot more white patches on hers

This morning the cage looked like a burst Leia/Storm filled pillow when they fly around they just leave trails everywhere

Re: Is this White Face Cockatiel a girl or boy?

My birds are molting as well. Generally, they don't have a molt at this time of the year. It has been very mild and no snow here the whole month of December. The weatherman says this was the warmest December here in 121 years, so I'm thinking that the mild weather has them thinking Spring is on its way!! Sure wish I could say it was April 1st. I'm afraid I've got about 8 weeks or more of Winter, and that could mean 25 inches of snow or more. Last year it was a hard winter with 55 inches of snow! (ugh)

Yes, female cockatiels have beautiful under wings for sure!
