    Decorah Eagles Nest

They are back and this year we have a camera on Nest #2 so we get to see them up close. Momma laid her first egg yesterday and this morning I turned it on just in time to see a shift change and got to watch the Mom delicately move her body onto her tiny egg. These Eagles are so beautiful and I hope they have a good successful year and don't have to go through many storms. I always worry so much about them in the snow storms but these two really go through all odds for their babies.

Oh boy, sometimes I really wonder about myself. I was so excited watching the parents change off in the nest I forgot to add the link. This is the link, http://www.ustream.tv/decoraheagles They now have two eggs in the nest and a third should be coming soon because these two usually have three babies every year.

Momma's in for a cold snow night in Iowa, it is 16 degrees and snowing. Poor girl is going to be covered in snow by the time morning comes but she is a tough bird who is devoted to her eggs. I have seen both Mom and Dad on the nest in snowy weather once the babies are born.

What a great time to have looked at the cams, momma is sitting on her eggs and I watched as she rearranged the nest, stood up, turned the eggs and layed back down. For such a big bird it always amazes me how delicate they can be!

It is great when you turn it on and you get to see them doing something other then just sitting on the eggs. It is amazing to see them gently move the eggs around and then slowly squat as they place their feet in the perfect place before they sit down. I have been watching them on this camera because I can turn down the quality of picture which works better for my "very slow" mountain internet we have here. http://www.farmyou.com/falcon_cams/index.html This site has links to lots of different nests. Last year I watched the Fort St Vrain Eagles Nest because the Decorah eagles built their new nest and the camera was not on it. Our of all of them I like the Decorah Eagles because they have a good supply of fish from the hatchery below so you don't see the babies struggling like you do on other cameras.

Just saw this on Decorah Eagles facebook page and had to repost it here. It is a picture with Bald Eagle eggs sitting next to balls so you can actually see how huge these eggs really are. I honestly had no idea they were this big but then the parents are also huge so of course they will lay huge eggs.

I am working with the bald eagle again right now and she reminds me daily just how freaking huge they are. When she's flying to your glove you are reminded very quickly just how insignificant we are as humans and how quickly a bird can ruin your day! haha

You are so lucky Jeremy to be able to work with such beautiful birds. I can not even imagine the thrill you feel working with a Bald Eagle and having it land on your gloved arm. Out of all of them Bald Eagles are my favorite ones of all raptors. They are too majestic and rare around here and to be able to see them flying free is just amazing to me and makes my hair on my arms stands up because they send chills down my body! They are big but a few of the Golden Eagles I met at the rescue were HUGE! When we go to Nevada out in the desert we see lots of Golden Eagles hunting and if we are lucky we see them grabbing something.
