What mutation is my baby lovebird?

Is anyone able to tell me what my baby lovebird will grow up to be? Is he a normal green?

In my view, it is a little early to tell. It sure is a precious little baby. After a few days, when the feathers begin to grow, and the down is visiable, it will probably be easer for us to make an opinion. Welcome to the community, Katherine, and do come back often and post some pics and the baby's progress. I feel that lovies are beautiful little birds. There are so many mutations, and each one, no matter the colors they are after they have fledged and grown some, are just beautiful.

Sure maxollie! I will continue posting the progress of him and his siblings. We have 4 babies.

Am i right to say, if he is a normal green his beak would start to have black markings by now? But no matter what colors they turn out to be, i am keeping each one of the babies!

I think the black beak comes when they get more feathers on them. I do not think he is a normal green and looks more yellow to me. We do have a few good lovebird breeders here but they do not come to the forum often but if they do they will know what your baby will look like. Little lovies at this age sort of look like little aliens to me and those big lovebird beaks just make them look funnier. It is hard to believe that a little thing like this will turn into a gorgeous lovebird within weeks. Please do keep us updated on your new baby because I would love to see it growing up.

Yes they look like little dinosaurs to me! They are starting to get cuter everyday though. I had to pull out 3 of the babies for handfeeding as the mom started to pluck their feathers. The last baby is still with the mom. Here are some pictures of baby #1.

They are all little cuties!! I am happy you are there to help feed the babies since the Mom decided she was going to pluck them. Little dinosaurs is a good description of them when they are little naked babies but now they are looking like lovebirds almost with that big old lovie beak.

Oh my gosh they are just three little cuties!! Are the parents the ones in your Avatar? If so they sure do not look like them with such bright orange feathers on their heads already. I can sort of see the pied colors in them as well but I really do not know much when it comes to genetics and am just seeing it because you see pied in them as well. If only one of the good lovebird breeders would drop by and tell you what they are because they peaked my interest as well.

Oh, Katherine! They are just precious. You are doing an awesome job caring for them and feeding them. I would say in the next couple of weeks more feathers will appear. I can hardly wait to see how they look in about 2-3 months. Don't you just LOVE them? I sure do! Thanks for sharing the update and the pics.
