    Stephane's roseicollis 2015

A part of my birds are now back in the aviary.

For the bad news, a wild cat killed 5 of my birds

I planned to put everybody in the aviary but 1 couple started a clutch 1 week ago

It's a first time for this couple and I don't know yet if the male have a hidden mutation, it will be a surprise. All I know for now is on 4 eggs 3 are fertile for sure.

    A also bought another lovie

It's a female opaline cinnamon and she already have her male

I'm so sorry to hear a wild cat got ahold of 5 of your birds. The pictures are precious, and I sure do like that opaline cinnamon mutation. I will be interested to see what she and her male produce as to babies.

I'll also be interested to see the babies of the pair that has the clutch now. We will be "surprised" together!

I am really sorry to hear that a wild cat killed some of your birds. Poor birds and hopefully you can figure out a way to keep them out so this does not happen again. It has to be horrible to go out and find out that this happened to your precious birds.

Beautiful birds! The bird in the back of the first picture has the most vivid orange head, is it just the lighting or is it really that deep of a orange?

    Re: Stephane's roseicollis 2015

I live in a woody area and I first thought the guilty was a marten but a few days after the first 2 killed birds I saw the wild cat hanging onto the aviary so I trapped him (he was not harmed) and I bring him 15km away in another village. For more safety I plan to add a second wire fence to the aviary.

The bird you speak about in the first picture (male) is my most colorful roseicollis that's why I'm so happy he's going to be father, I think his chicks will be far from ugly
He lived alone 3 years and I gave him a Pallid (yellow) female this winter and now he's going to be a father
I really love to see my birds reproduce, taking care of their chicks, watch the male feeding the female, watching the chicks growing, it can seam meaningless for some people, but I can watch them for hours, smiling when they act like that

For the couple opaline cinnamon x green, the result will be 100% of green, all female will be green and male green split opaline cinnamon

For the couple who have eggs, of course, I will give all the news in pictures.

I am so happy you caught the cat and took him away so he can not harm anymore of them. I think the second fence around the aviary is a great idea and it will save your heart the pain of losing any more birds to wild animals.

Wow, he has amazing colors and I am happy it was not the camera making him appear that bright. His babies will be stunning and I will be looking forward to seeing them grow up. I am with you and I know I could sit next to your aviaries and watch your birds for hours. Lovebirds are such cute birds with lots of crazy inside of them which to me makes them even cuter. Heck, I sit in my backyard and watch the wild birds outside when they come to eat and take bathes for hours sometimes because it is like you own special wildlife show right in front of you. Add in beautiful trees and nature around you and it is heaven here on earth.

More or less 1 week left for the first newborn.

Have you ever heard about a trick to recognize "opaline" bearer?

I don't know if it's a fact or just a theory but a Belgian 'specialist' seems to say the red on the tail-feathers go from side to side.
I'm not sure to be very clear so I took a picture :

left feather : green male, supposedly opaline bearer, right feather 'pallid' female (not opaline)

Oh, I know how exciting it is to hear them. I had a budgie pair that hatched four chicks, and I also heard the little peep peep peep, of the baby while still in the shell! Good luck!! I hope everything goes well with this clutch hatching.

How cool is that, I never knew you could hear them through the shell. I cannot wait to see what the new ones will look like.

He's well fed and I can hear another one

Something like 24 hours before the eclosion, when you put the egg against your ear you can hear the chick.

Just a tiny blob bird now. It is so amazing that something that looks like this baby grows up to be a beautiful lovebird. I hope a few of them have their dads bright color.

From the color of the eyes I can say the first will probably be yellow and the second green.

2-3 weeks before the first feathers, how can I wait that long?
