    Homemade play gyms?

I am thinking of making a homemade play gym. I was thinking about using pvc piping as the frame, but what would I cover the tubes in to make them have more grip?

I think I heard of using vet wrap but I am not sure.

Yes, Vet wrap. About $2 for a roll and comes in bright colours. Watch that they don't try and pick at it/eat it. If you have plenty of toys around and on the gym, they should be fine with it. You could also use a bird-safe sisal and tightly wrap around, but I think that's an invitation to pick at it. Plain, non-treated cotton rope with a wipe forced through the middle would work too.

    Re: Homemade play gyms?

I've seen some really neat play gyms that people have made from forum members who post here. You can really use your imagination when it comes to building one.

You could consider googling: making bird play gyms with pvc piping. OR how to make a play gym for cockatiels and other birds.

I would say a homemade gym would be of better quality than some of the ones we see in the pet shops and on-line.

I think Emery gave you good hints. I agree with the suggestions.
