Hi, Alam! Welcome to the community. How old are your tiels? They are sooo precious. They do look to be young, but it is always difficult to estimate their age if there is no history of their lives. They are normal gray mutation. That means they are a common mutation, but also could have some other DNA from the lutino or pied mutations. Should you have an interest in mutations, go to a website called the National Cockatiel Society.

You could go on line and get a sex DNA kit for each of them. Just google dna sexing kits for cockatiels. The test is easy, you pull some feathers according to instructions, and send them back to the company. They will send you the result. You also can have an Avian vet or regular Vet do the test.

Also, visit a website called Cockatiel Cottage, on line. You will find lots of info about cockatiels that will be very helpful.

Thanks for posting the pics. We will welcome your updates anytime.

Hi Alam! I don't know much about cockatiels yet (I got mine a couple weeks ago), but I've heard that they are hard to sex. You could tell by some other things. For example, I know males are very vocal. Check if they whistle during a certain time of day. Another method is with the cheeks. Males usually have brighter and richer orange cheeks. Once again, I'm not sure about some of this information, but the most accurate method is probably the DNA test.

Hope to see you around often!

Hello Alam, your cockatiels are really cute. Ive owned cockatiels for just over a year and I agree with Ayan that they are hard to sex. I also agree that the cheeks are brighter on a male and males are very vocal. But the adult females also have bars under their wings and tails. How old are your tiels? If your cockatiels have the bars under their wings after their first hard molt then they are most likely a female. But as Ellen said the sure way to tell is to get them DNA tested.

Your cockatiels are both male. the one with the yellow flight and tail feathers is a light pied cock, the other a normal grey cock

Does it hurt them when you pull the feathers? I ordered a DNA kit but I don't want to hurt my little one! I'm almost sure I have a hen (just a feeling I get!) but I can't wait to know for sure!

From what I've read here on the forum, there are instructions included in the kit, and they tell you the exact place on he body to pull them so it will not heard the bird at all.
