    Breeding Conures?

Hi All, we are finally getting a mate for Jasmine our conure and we hope that they can find a family together (if the friendship works out first lool)

I just had a few questions-

I know they start breeding after a year but the male is 7 weeks and the female is 6 monthes, despite the age difference would it work out?
How do you know if a female is pregnant?

If you all have any information about the situation please help out and offer advice for me and my birds.

    Love this group <3

I don't think the age difference would be a factor, but, as you say, it would be a year before the male will be into hormones. That would put the female at about 1 1/2 years old, and in my view that is a great age to breed females. The female will most likely begin puberty and become hormonal at about 9-10 months of age. Some of the symptoms would be eating more cuttlebone, watery and larger droppings, shredding paper, flirting with the male, and trying to build a nest.

We have several conure owners here, so hopefully they will see your post and answer your questions.

I would love to get nacho a mate too lol but I'm not sure if nacho is a she or he... is there really no way to tell on their appearance and behavior?

You can get a DNA sexing kit online and find out if you have a big or girl. Or you can have a vet do the test. The online test requires you to pull a few feathers from certain areas of the body and send them back. They will then send you the result. Google...-dna sexing kits for budgies. I do not know the cost of the test.
