bought a female canary for my male canary

    hello
today I've bought a female canary for my male canary (I have him for a year)
they've been both eating and flying around the cage well so far except for when one canary was too close to the other one
if that happened that my female canary was close to him she would make squeaky noises and my male canary would sometimes open his beak but he didn't attack her yet and he's not jealous of her eating his food
do you think they would be fine as long as someone is watching them or should I put the female in my smaller cage while I'd buy a bigger one for her?
my male even whistled now like he does when he sings and currently she's like 10cm from him eating an apple but she got spooked a bit before
do you think they will get along? perhaps they're getting used to each other?
    I'm worried
please someone reply, amateur or professional it doesn't matter

excuse me for the extremely ****ty quality, the photos I took they're only so you have an idea how they are going on together, how they are positioned and behaving

(the same, except after a while the male opened his mouth and went slightly closer to her because he wanted to eat the apple)
    he didn't touch her yet

Hi, John. Go to one of these two websites...photobucket or tiny pic. You can create a free account, upload the pics, and post them here. I could not see your pics as posted above.

Hi John, I can see your pictures but like you said they are pretty bad quality ones. I can see how close they are sitting to each other and this is a good sign they will get along together. I do not know much about Canaries but I would think if they did not attack each other right away and have been in the cage together for the day then they would be OK together.

Re: bought a female canary for my male canary

I will post some more quality photos later
they didn't ATTACK each other, only my male doesn't like when my female is too close to him and looking into his eyes, then he opens his mouth and if she doesn't go on a different perch he slightly moves towards her and she makes sort of nervous like sounds
but he didn't touch her yet however she slightly bit his tail (more like a kiss lol) when he was on the middle perch, she was on the lower perch so his tail was hanging near her
yesterday evening they were quietly staring on each other from like 5 cm distance for a minute or so, that was real cute
they've slept okay through the night though

and they sat quietly like that because it was evening, today my male tends to chase her often while she is eating
I have to choose either wait a few days so they get used to each other or separate them (both in different houses)

she tried again to bite his tail but again it seemed pretty soft to me, and only the absolute end of the tail

and if she is eating and he is not, he usually goes to scare her off of the feeder but doesn't bite her
I think they are getting along not good, but not bad either
maybe time will show some change

he let her eat now for a long time without interrupting her, but that was probably because he is tired
