    GCC - male/female question

Hello. I'm considering a gcc and it will be from a batch of 4 hatched in December (have looked for a rescue to no avail). My question is should I be gender specific? He/she will be my pet primarily but I need him/her to get along with my husband also as he is about to retire. My previous bird was a male gcc named Elmer (passed in October). It was so heartbreaking that I swore I'd never get another. Well, it's just not a home without a little feathered buddy. Is one gender preferred over another or more even-tempered? Any information or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Oh, our only other pets are two 70# dogs that will get along with a new member. They miss Elmer too.

Hi TK. I'm not sure about GCCs specifically, but I know many parrots and birds in general are more talkative/interactive/active if they are male, quieter and a bit more reserved if female. Each has their plusses and minusses! I know the heartbreak you are talking about and also know how you feel that it isn't home without a feathery friend. It honours your old friend's memory to get another, I think. Good luck and let us know how you go

Personally I would rather have a male then a female but it is just because then I would never have to worry about egg binding if it was a male. I read about female dying from egg binding and to me it would be just awful having this happen because there really is nothing you can do to stop it.
