    misty is doing better, again

Hi Everyone: Misty is well on the mend. She has been putting weight on her leg for the last couple days, and crawling all over her cage. She's been a lot more vocal as well the last couple days. AND, she's responding to Thor's calls. She still won't let him near her, but, there seems to be conversation going on.
I've been adding ground egg shells to her seed mix, I think she's eating some of it. Tried kale several times, but she avoids it at all cost. oh well.
    But her foot is better.

I am happy to hear its feeling better. Poor girl needs to be careful with it but birds just don't understand how to be careful.

her foot is all better. but her wing is still having issues. this morning she tried to fly to the floor, and fell instead. but she walked over to me, and sat on my shoulder trembling with her eyes half shut for a bit. I called, and have an appointment for her Tuesday morning. she has stayed on my shoulder all day so far, wanting scritches. she even stayed on while I cleaned out the freezer. she is in a heavy molt. there are many of her primary feathers on the floor, so I"m pretty sure her flight issues are due to that. but I dont like seeing her hurting, and want to make sure it isnt something else. it has been very nice to have her snuggly again, after staying in her cage for the past week.

Poor Misty. I really hope its just her molting and not her injuring her wing again. My daughters bird went to the vet awhile back and she highly recommended giving Tikki a pea sized bite of organic red palm oil everyday. Its good for there skin and helps with molting feathers.

well, aside from the fact that Misty Hates! dr. Ako, the visit went well. He sees nothing visually wrong with her wing except that the fracture didn't heal well. but, its not like you can put a wing in a cast. She is molting, and that is causing her to be more clumsy, which combined with a bum wing equals flying badly. unfortunately, it is probably going to be a chronic issue. her leg has healed up, and shes walking normally now which is good. and, she has gained weight. considering all shes doing right now is eating and sleeping there is no surprise there.
so, good news, and pretty much exactly what I thought it would be.

Thats good news!! I think she will handle the wing issue OK. Birds are amazing when they have some injury or special needs. Maybe Thor will manage to make good friends with her.

I'm so happy the visit went well! Yes, poor Dr. Ako is Dr. Evil for most, if not all, pets! I am glad it is nothing to serious and with rest she will able to heal up 100%
