    Is teflon safe?

My parents use some teflon cookware- not frying pans, but they do use a teflon waffle iron and cake pan. Are these things budgie-safe?

Teflon is not safe to use with birds in the home.

Especially the waffle iron because those get hot enough that they would emit the Teflon gas into the house. If you cannot convince your parents to quit using them please move the birds into your room and close the door and seal the bottom of it off. It will protect them but it is still not good to use these in a house with a bird in it. I use to have one and we would put it in our laundry room which has a door (use to be our back outside door until we built the laundry room) in between the house and the laundry room in between them. Hair straightners and hair flat irons also have a Teflon coating on them so keep those away from the birds as well.

Convincing parents to give up teflon is a lot harder than it looks. Luckily, the room next to my budgie's cage can be sealed off from the rest of the house. I'll move him into that room when we use teflon appliances. Thanks for your advice!

I could not convince my husband to give up his Teflon pan for years but finally they came out with awesome ceramic cookware so I bought him a pan and he loved it. I am happy you have a room you can bring him too that can be sealed off good.
