Exclamation Budgies goes on mating even after laying Eggs

    Hello,

I have one pair of budgies. Female has layed eggs after 5 days. But female budgie does not stay in box much times and pair still mates.
And it still has not layed 2nd egg after 1.5 day.
    Will there be any problem?

Re: Budgies goes on mating even after laying Eggs

Hi, and welcome. Is this the first time for the hen to lay eggs? Often times, the hen is immature and young on the first clutch/batch, and has irratic egg laying. And also, the eggs can be unfertilized. It is not unusual for pairs to mate while the hen is laying. But that behavor, can result in multiple clutchs of eggs, which means the hen could be setting for a longer period of time. So do not throw out any eggs, even if you were to candle them and find they are not fertile. The hen needs to keep her eggs for at least 35 days. I am including more than one egg laying/clutch in that number. Usually it would be at least 25 days.

Hens must always keep their eggs. Never throw them away. They lay an egg every other day, and can lay them at night too. What kind of nest do you have, and what is the setup for it?

The hen will not stay in the box much at all until abiut 10 days or so have passed after laying her eggs. Then, she will be in the box most of the time, setting on the eggs. She will only come out of the box to eat and drink for a short time.

Thanks for the guidance. I will keep in mind.

I thinks it is first time for hen to lay eggs as egg laying process is little bit irregular and hen stays too little in the nest. I will keep the eggs in the nest as you said.
