Hi Chris, I am horrible when it comes to sexing parakeets. I heard that blue or purple ceres is a male bird and when they have a pink or brown cere they are female. But some females also have blue on the ceres. Maxollie (Ellen) will be able to explain it all when she sees this post.

The photo is a bit blurry and the lighting dim but if the cere color is as purple as it appears to be, you've got a boy.

Awww. How beautiful. Were you told how old he is? He looks very young to me. His mutation looks to be a light brown or blue color. With very young budgies, it takes a few months to know for sure, although the cere apears to be bluish in color, which would be a boy. The lighter colored mutations are difficult to sex at a very young age. You can go on line and get a dna sexing kit, or have an Avian vet do the test, if you want to know immediately.
