Cockatiel has black eye and bump on head

Yesterday I noticed my 24 year old tiel Rudy had a black eye. I took him to the vet and the doc said it was a shiner and nothing more. Maybe he scratched himself or crash landed or got into a bar fight so no big deal. He gave me ointment to apply and said everything is fine. However, tonight after work I noticed a black spot just under his crest. Upon further investigation I found a lump with what appeared to be dried up blood. I put the ointment on that as well as his black eye. There has been no traumatic incidents that Iím aware of and his behavior seems normal although now every little thing looks odd to me. If I can figure out a way to post a picture I will. Please help if anyone has any advice before I can go back to the vet.

Do you think he might of done both of them at the same time and you missed the head injury. He possibly could have had a night fright and hit something in his cage. I would try not to stress over it unless you see him acting differently or if you are concerned you might be able to find a avian vet open tomorrow to take him to it. I hope your little Rudi will be OK for the weekend. I use to really stress when my bird hurt himself or was feeling sick on a Friday because I worried all weekend until I could get him to his regular vet.

Thank you for your reply. I did consider that. Itís possible that hitting heals head caused the black eye but this is a first so I wanted to see what people thought. So do you think if it were a tumor or anything worse than just a bump that it would affect his behavior and he would be different than he usually is? Because I can say for sure that heís acting himself. Just scaring the hell out of me.

I don't think tumors would bleed but not positive about it really. It does sound like he hit something which caused both the head bump and the black eye. I hope he seems better today.
