    GCC Volume

    Curious.
Has anyone out there experienced loud GCC's? Keep in mind that I'm talking PYRRHUAS like GCCs and Pearlies not ARATINGAS like Suns and Jendays.

Tikki is a Pineapple GCC and he is not too loud at all. He talks more then he cheeps and even though he makes noise it is nothing like how loud Boomer was when he was alive.

Boomer is the Peachface lovebirds in my avatar. He had a very piercing chirp.

That would have been my guess, but I didn't want to be wrong and cause trouble.

My Peachface lovebird was not only loud but mean as all get out! I adored her though nobody else did.

Again, female being mean. As much as I loved my females, I'm not sorry they're gone. My males are sweet, sweet pets.

My male Yellow-side GCC is extremely quiet. My male Sun is extremely loud. In a week, a BCC, 23 years, female, is moving in. Between her and Daytona, I'll have the loudest house around!

    Why are males generally quieter?

    Re: GCC Volume

In my view it depends upon the bird. I have had both male and female cockatiels over the years but never had a conure. As to tiels, the females I had were very docile. They ratchet up more noise about the time their hormones kicked in, but were never mean or aggressive. However, they were single hens with no mate, and I had no male cockatiels at the time, and only one tiel at a time in the home. I have had multiple budgies together at a time, and as others have mentioned on various threads, females together seem to create more aggression toward each other, especially during hormone time. And I have had male tiels that were super loud, especially at hormone time OR everyday no matter the hormones. So, I would not put any one species or sex of bird in just the "loud" category. I think many factors determine it.

    Re: GCC Volume

I haven't found that females are loud. My Sun was very loud, but that's the nature of Sun Conures. Other types of conures are quieter. My male birds of any species were louder than the females.

Funny note: I once kept crickets as pets. The males used to gather in a corner behind a rock and have a sing-along. The females gathered in the opposite corner and were quiet. So, I have to ask: what the heck happened to human females??? ROFLMAO!!
