    Broken wing?

We decided to clip our budgie's wings less than usual so that he could fly some but not get enough momentum to bang into our windows and hurt himself. Today he tried to fly onto my father's lap but fell short and hit a chair leg- not hard, but when he landed, his left wing seemed to really bother him. When I got home a few hours later he seemed pretty irritated by his wing but was eating, drinking, preening, and stretching both wings a little. I think the problem might be a broken feather, but I looked at his wing and couldn't see one. I don't want to take him to the vet until I am sure that his wing is broken as the long car ride would be stressful. Any suggestions on what to do?

    Re: Broken wing?

If the wing is truly broken, it will be dangling, kind of hanging down his side. If he can stretch both wings a little, I don't think the wing is broken. He's probably just sore.

If he had a broken feather, you'd see it right away. It would just stick out in an obvious way.

Without seeing the bird myself, I do feel pretty confident that he just got a hard bump and he just sore. It happens. I think he'll be alright, especially since he's eating, drinking, preening and stretching.

Please keep us posted on how he's doing.
