Budgie dead, 2 days after buying from the shop

We just bought a pair of budgies on Sunday. They were just still, not drinking and not eating. Figured they are under duress and settling in. Next day, very slight movement n chirps but still on the same perch. Still not eating or drinking. We thought some progress and they will be normal in few days. But sadly 1 budgie passed away today. So disappointed that its gone. Why so, what went wrong?

I'm so sorry for your loss! It may be that the budgie was either too stressed, or already sick. Was the budgie puffing up a lot, or showing any tail-bobbing before it passed?

I dont think so. They were stretching/spreading their wings in the morning, felt just normal. When we got home in the eve, one was gone.

I would suggest you immediately contact the seller and see if thry will replace the one that died. You would also need to take all toys and perches out of the cage, and wash them with a mix of vinegar and.warm water, and wash the cage inside and outside with that mix as well, so that any bacteria, or disease from the one that died, will not pass to the one you still have.

A bird owner should not use essential oils or diffusers, Teflon pans for cooking, chemicals for cleaning, or smoking or vaping in the home. A bird can die fast with any of these.

The seller should step up and replace this one in my view.

Fly high and free sweet budgie!! Over the rainbow bridge.

I think Petsmart has a guarantee for them to replace the bird if it dies within a few days of purchase.

Even though I did not understand that sentence duress..., I am sorry for this... Hard to say the cause. You should let the doctor to do the autopsy and histology examination to detect the reason.

The bird died so fast after you brought her home. In fairness, the store should give you a replacement bird to replace the bird that passed. Stores are supposed to have a general idea of the current health of their birds.

Re: Budgie dead, 2 days after buying from the shop

They should replace the budgie, as has been said wash everything with vinegar and water, rinse well. The food and water should be set at perch level where they can get to it, the cage is too small for two birds. You should also have millet spray close to them, so they will eat. Budgies can die of dehydration and starvation very quickly. Being a budgie owner of over 15 years now, I can tell you, the cage they sold you is so wrong for them. I often say the people that design bird cages never owned birds and very few pet store people know what is good for them. Not knowing where they are located in the house, it could have been something airborne, but if the other little guy is doing okay then probably not. Could have been stress, lack of eating or disease. Please read up on budgie care, it is unreal how much I have learned and how many mistakes I made that cost budgie lives at first.

So, clean the cage, not normal household cleaner, not while the other budgies are in the cage.

Get the food and water up to perch level, make it very easy for them to eat . LOTS of spray millet within reach without them having to move.

Get them different perches, dowel rods will give them sore feet. Rope perch would be good and a different solid perch.I

Watch them closely. Put white paper towels over the grates at the bottom of the cage so you can monitor their droppings and if you are seeing any seed hulls to insure they are eating

Budgies are notorious for not eating or drinking when under stress sit and talk with them quietly as much as you can. I

I am so very sorry for your loss, it's very hard.
