    Lovebird Mutation Query

    Hello!

I was hoping someone could confirm (or assist me in finding) the mutation of my Lovebird. I am going to refer to him/her as "it" since I have not had it sexed yet.

It's name is Pico and it's between 4 and 5 weeks old (I think. Behavior and feather development seems to fit this age). The breeder I purchased it from was very unspecific with its age and mutations etc which is frustrating and as such I am trying to build up a profile and log for the bird to help me track its growth, behavior etc.

I believe it is a SF Violet D Turquoise however I could be completely mistaken. I've gone through so much material on the genetics I think I might have confused myself. haha.

Here are 2 pictures of Pico:

I will try get better pictures in more natural light and include them in the post later.

I only have a bad quality image of his parents with a vague description however if I am correct, then the mother is a DF Violet D Turquoise and the father is an AquaTurquoise (potential D however photo was not clear enough to confirm, nor could I see any Violet Factor in him, but once again could be possible I guess). They are both Rosie Faced Lovebirds (according to the breeder and this seems to be correct).

Many thanks for reading and any information you may have!

    kind regards,
    rudelv

    Thank you Maxollie!

As promised before here are 3 more pictures. I took them in indirect sunlight so it should be fairly accurate.

He is a beautiful bird! I do not know mutations but we do have a few breeders who will hopefully drop by and tell us what mutation your beautiful lovebird is.

    Thank you Boomer Girl!

I couldn't resist getting him when I saw how pretty he was and how cute!

A little fun extra info not related to the query, I think he's starting to wean as he's taking a little less baby forumal and is instead sitting on the side of his bowl and picking at the millet spray and seeds. He's very willing to try new foods and fruit but only if i offer them to him while I hold him.

He loves snuggling in my jacket or shirt and sleeping there while I'm at my PC. He's generally quiet but if he's in his cage he'll quietly chatter to himself and when he sees me he'll start chirping and talking back. He also loves playing and hiding in the collar of my shirts when he's on my shoulder or just lying in my hand.

He sounds like a little sweetheart! He has to be so fun to hang out with and I am thinking you have a huge smile on your face the entire time. Lovies can be such snuggle birds and your little one certainly sounds like one to me. Hopefully Rudi or someone else here that knows there breeds will pop on to help you out.

    Re: Lovebird Mutation Query

    Dear rudelv,
    you are welcome.
Really he is a very beautiful bird
He is single dark single violet turquoise
I will explain you why: the color of (Rump) indicates Single Dark Single Violet and Turquoise means Blue with Whitface
if there is no dark and no violet the Rump will be Skyblue.
    thanks
