    Can parakeet eat cockatiel food?

My parakeet seems to love my cockatiels food, whenever she goes inside the cockatiel cage to play while I知 cleaning her cage she goes straight for the food. Ive heard it can hurt her so sometimes I値l scare her off by dropping what I知 doing and running to get the food bowl away from her. I try to keep her away from it as much as possible but she tends to eat it some every once in a while. Is it ok to allow her to eat the seeds or should I continue scaring her away? She seems to go for the small seeds and sunflowers. Of course I only feed her parakeet food so I didnt know if it would upset her stomach if she suddenly ate cockatiel food.

Sunflower seed has quite a fat content, and should be fed sparingly to all parrots, no matter the species. I feel it is important to give parakeets the small seeds ratther than the larger seeds in a cockatiel mix. My suggestion would be to remove the seed cup in the cockatiel's cage, while the parakeet is visiting that cage. Larger seeds, in my view, are difficult for a parakeet\budgie to digest.

I usually try to remove the cup of food before she goes in but sometimes I tend to forget and when I do remove it the cockatiel screams his head off until his cup is back in the cage. The cockatiel has literally almost starved himself when we changed his diet away from sunglowers. Made everyone have a headache since he screamed nonstop for three days until he got his old diet back. But she will be ok if she does manage to grab a bit once in a while? She wont die or get an upset stomach?

I dont think it will hurt her as long as she doesnt eat too many sunflowers which would be hard to do if the bowl is in the cockatiels cage and not hers. When you see her eating there just take her out of the cage and close the door for a little to get her mind off getting right back in.
