My budgies currently have 2 3-week-old chicks. The older one chirps normally, but his brother has a raspy chirp. Jade is very active and energetic, and is very vocal despite his rasp. He sounds like an alarm clock when he’s hungryShould I be worried? His older sister had a rasp too, but hers wasn’t as bad and eventually corrected itself into a slightly higher-pitched voice.
Do you have nesting material in the nestbox or the nest? In my view, it is possible the birds cannot breath because of that material. My suggestion is to remove some of the material, but not all of it. See if that will stop the rasping. Rasping is a signal of not breathing properly.
There isn’t any material in there, just some poop that I clean out every week.
Does anyone smoke cigarettes or use e cigs in your home? Or do you use essential oils in a difusser?
Hopefully, they will grow out of the rasping. Is the box a regular budgie wooden box, or is it a cardboard or some other type of box?
What diet do you feed the parents? Do you feed pellets, seeds, or both, and any fresh veggies?
Nobody smokes, but we do use essential oils. The box is a wooden budgie box, and the parents get a pellet/seed mix with frequent veggies. The raspy chirper decided he wanted out of the box today but he still sounds raspy, so I guess it might be the diffuser. Will remove that. Wondering if he might just be more sensitive to it than his brother.
