Hi all
I can't remember Remember if if if I've asked this before but was after the recent red mite scare scare I got I just wanted to ask what do you use to keep your birds free of parasites? (Especially in spring and summer when parasites are most active). I've currently been using a ivermectin drops which I got off the bird care website but I'm unsure if it will kill red mites? Would it be be advised to get a bug repellent maybe for the bird cage? I'm just unsure how to prevent the budgies from getting infested in the first place. As I mainly ask as I've got other animals in the house but I use monthly spot ons for them which seems to work well and prevent any infestation. Is there any products or even vetinary products which will do the same? As preventing the infestation is better than trying to cure it.... I'd appreciate any advice or help on this... I'm mainly asking as yea from my previous post I'm kinda freaking out.... I'm currently scared to even open my windows for the birds Incase a mite/louse comes in.... Any advice is appreciated!
None of the birds here and in my families birds have ever had any kind of bug infestation. All of us have dogs and cats and my daughter even has chickens in her yard and we have not had any issues with bugs. The only issues with bugs here is gnats which are just once a year with or without birds and they are easily caught in a gnat trap with vinegar in it.
Fly Free Boomer, we will forever love you.
