    Wood chewing

My female budgie has her ladder nearly chewed in half. She ignores other wood items placed in the cage for that purpose. Her male companion does not seem to be similarly afflicted. Is there any repair that is safe for budgies? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

In my view, it would be best to remove the ladder and replace it with one similar, if possible, one that is natural wood, and not painted. My concern is that she has to be ingesting some of those very tiny pieces, and that could cause her death.

Maybe a new ladder will not perk her interest as much as the current one. All birds are prone to chewing, and it is almost impossible to stop them. You might even consider not replacing the ladder at all. If it were me, that is what I would do.

Thanks for the reply. It's a natural unpainted ladder from the bird store and they seem to enjoy going up and down it, and I enjoy watching them. Maybe there is a plastic version that I can substitute.

I suggest you replace her ladder with one of a material she does not care much dor. That way it will probably last. She is in the cage so much, probably gets bored.

I would not use plastic. They could chew that ladder and swallow plastic and die too!
