OK! Just watch and observe her for signs she may be laying an egg! Being so young she could lay one on the cage floor, or also while swinging, or off the perch. If you see her on the cage floor setting, be right by the cage, and watch her movement there. When she lays an egg, she sets there, and if she is in good health, and the egg shell is hard, she can push it out. Plenty of calcium in her diet is necessary to make the shell hard. If she seems to be unable to push out the egg, gently pick her up, and look under her, to see if she does have an egg there. If so, that may signal she is egg bound. Then, you do nerd the vet asap! Hopefully, she will be able to push out the egg. When that happens you should see the egg roll out from under her.

With such a young hen, she still may not be fertile, so even though the pair is mating, her little reproductive organs are not fully deverloped as yet, so there would be no eggs forming inside of her. Then, that bump in her abdomen is a concern to me. P!ease keep us posted.

Update, the round part of her abdomen has gone lower a bit, before it was in the middle of her chest and her stomach, now it is all the way down to the stomach.

To me, that sounds like the egg may be dropping and she soon will lay one.

No, due to her being almost a year old, the molting is normal. At that age, or a little younger, tbey have a molt that replaces all the baby feathers and then all feathers are adult feathers. Budgies do tend to lose feathers during the year, besides their annual molt. Change in weather temps, or new foods or seeds, or something that might frighten them can also cause some feather loss. Now, if her abdominal swelling is a medical condition, that might also cause feather loss. A vet wellness check would be best for her, now, in my view!

She is very active now, but she spends a bit more time on the cage floor than her perch, but when she is on the cage floor she still is very active, not puffed up, nothing. And she also climbs the sides of the cage to get on her perch. While her mate jumps up to get on the perch.

That is good news! Spending a little more time on the cage floor could be a signal of nesting. I know my cockatiel hen used to do that before she laid eggs. I am happy for you that she does not seen sick at all. If you are interested, do a google search for........ information on budgies mating and laying eggs. That may help you to better understand the process.

    We will watch for updates.

Sad news, her mate passed away recently . I cried alot, as all budgie owners would, but it happens. Will she be able to breed without him?

Oh, I am so sorry her mate has passed away. Did this happen in the last 10 days or so? If she does have eggs inside if her, and she mated with him, before he died, the eggs might be fertile. But usually if it is longer than 10 days, the eggs would not be fertile. If she does lay eggs soon, you would need to get a nestbox, so she can set on them for about 25 days. If they do not hatch, then more than likely they were not fertile in the first place.

Hens do not need a mate to lay eggs. Do watch her actions carefully. I am sure she misses her mate.
