    Green Cheek Conure

Hi, I am new to breeding green cheek conures. I bought a proven pair but when the eggs hatched, the mother wouldn't feed them. what can I do to prevent this in the future.

    Re: Green Cheek Conure

Hi, and welcome to the community. On occasion, a pair will not feed their young. In my view, there is no particular reason why this happens. I will say any breeding pair, no matter which parrot species does not like us to be checking the nest or the eggs all of the time, and the female is very careful to protect the eggs, babies and the nest. I have read that a hen can abandon her eggs or babies, because of such interference.

It is always a good idea to have a can of baby bird powder formula on hand and a syringe, in case this happens. Do a Google search for...handfeeding baby conures, and also, go to YouTube and search for ...handfeeding baby conures, and other baby parrots. Learning all you can about handfeeding will be of great help to you. It really is not that difficult. The main goal is to be sure to not overfeed, and to feed slowly. Too fast feeding can cause the food to asparate into the lungs.

We will welcome your updates anytime.
