    Hello feathered family!

    Well hello there!

My name is Tara, I am a pet owner and lover, who also works in the pet industry. My husband and I share our home with:
    - a Keeshond dog named Rommel, birthday July 25/09
    - two cats, one DSH and one DLH, named Cupcake and Sprinkles, respectively. Their birthdays are April 27 and June 13, both of 2016.
    - an African Grey Parrot, Congo, named Gemma, birthday December 29/12 (need to confirm)

I have had Gemma for the better part of three years now, after her initial family decided to move to a different country. They were unable to take her due to the prevalence of bird flu, her lack of leg band, and the overall cost of importation.

She is a very sweet bird (birb as she calls herself), and loves to sing and be goofy with us. Currently our living situation only allows me to let her out when I am home, as she does not have a bird room, but in the future, I would love to have room for her to be a little more explorative.

That is my crazy animal family in a nut shell.

Welcome to the forum Tara! Gemma is my favorite kind of bird out of all of them. They are always such smart birds with a vocabulary that is incredibly great for a bird.

Thank you! I've always wanted an African Grey and when she "fell into my lap" I was elated, to say the least. Of course, she's poorly socialized to people, but my husband trains with her daily, getting her used to him being in the same space and talking (he has a very deep voice). She mimics his laughs now, and we find it hilarious.

I think I called her it once or twice, and now we just go with it. She also loves the siren sound from Kill Bill, back up beepers for large vehicles, the microwave, the telephone. Speaking of, she has two phone voices: one is formal and sweet "Hello", and the other is blunt and kind of annoyed "Hi". It's quite funny hearing her put noises and voices together.

She sounds like a very fun bird to have around. I have only got to spend time with a few of them and both times they cracked me up with there amazing talking voices. One of them would call my friends cat and funny enough the cat would come running when he did it. That is funny your girl has two different voices and shows all of us just how smart and amazing these birds are.
