    Budgies and Getting new roof

Hey everyone, have not posted in a long while. I have a question. We are getting a new roof out on the house, this Friday and was wondering if anyone has had this done before and what they did with their babies while it was going on.

My first thought was to board them at the vets for the day, but one of my budgies is chronically ill required two meds twice a day, and a special diet. My other budgie has not been to The vets or in a car since he came home. The second thought was to take them to my brothers house and spend the day with them there. The third option is to keep them home, take them to the lowest level of the house, which they are kind of familiar with and ride it out for the day.

Looking for suggestions and thoughts??? Thank you!

Hi, and welcome back. If it were me, I would take them to my brothers and spend the day with them. I feel the noise tearing off the shingles and replacing them are going to frighten your budgies. Stay close by them and talk to them often through the day. And cover their cages with a light weight blanket, with front side open, that day. Covering helps them to not be afraid so much, of their new environment.

Also, the chemicals being used to install new shingles, will emit a bad odor, which will not be good for the birds at all. It could kill them.

I agree with Ellen that if it were me I would take them to your brothers house. It is always better safe then sorry and odors and all the noise could effect them so why risk it.

Take them to your brothers house for the day. The odor from roofing materials is bad for birds health. It cankill them.
