Today is day 1 with my pied Cockatiel questions for you

Hello, Everyone, I am new to the forum here and Today I just got this hand fed baby cockatiel.

There were 3 in the same play area and he came up to me and sat on my shoulder and wouldn't leave. I knew I had to take her. I have a few questions.

Does anyone know what "kind" of cockatiel I have?I think I was told a dirty-faced pied?? is it a boy or a girl?

This cockatiel is about 2 months old, He is a bit clumsy in his cage, But seems content and loves to be held and is weaned I did see him eat at the pet store.

I was told to keep food and water at the bottom of his cage for a while until he is used to the new cage.

I will give him A lot of attention.

So much to ask but I will ask more later. Any advice for the first few days would be great. The good news is she loves to come out and sit with me. Right now he/ she is sleeping. I also need to get a good name for him.

    Any advice is appreciated.

how do you add photos ? I am still working on how to use the forum

Hi, and welcome to the community. I would suggest to keep on handfeeding your new baby, even though she or he is weaned, because quite honestly, the general rule is that baby birds cockatiels should be at least 12 weeks old, before they are sent home with new owners. Since your baby was being hand fed, I would continue the handfeeding for a few more weeks, along with giving her the seeds and water. I would suggest handfeeding every morning, before feeding seeds, then handfeed about 4 o'clock in the afternoon, before you put her to bed at night. You can mix a few seeds in with the formula as well. I would handfeed for a few more weeks. The handfeeding formula is full of many great vitamins and other nutrition, that will help her to grow and thrive, along with her seeds. You can also give her some millet seeds. Get a pack of spray millet at the pet shop.

Check with the petshop to see what baby bird formula they were feeding. Pick up a can of the formula, and a syringe. And go on YouTube and search for handfeeding baby cockatiels. There are great videos there.

Get a tiny pic account on line. Search those two words. Then upload your pics to that account, and then upload them to your gallery here, as well as to a post space like this one! I am so excited to see your new baby. Click on gallery on the home page here. It is not difficult at all to post pics.
