Smile Baby Kaks ready to fly - do I lower the nesting box so they don't fall?

    Hi Everyone

So I have 5 babies, 5 weeks old and playful. They have been testing their wings for a week now so know they're getting ready to fly, but i'm very worried as their nesting box is about 4 feet from bottom of cage. Do I lower it to bottom of cage till they are flying properly or leave it to parents to teach them and hope they don't drop. I take the birds out every day to play, and i've been hoping they would fly off from my hands, just a foot of the floor but they balance on my fingers and just flap their wings but won't jump off yet. Don't want any to fall and really get hurt from the nesting box. Any advice would be appreciated.

I wished I could answer your question but I really do not know what is best for the babies. If it were me I for sure would pad the bottom of the cage with a pad that there claws cannot get stuck in. Maybe you could put a towel down below and then put a pillow case or small sheet that has a nice smooth surface over the towel. It least then if they did fall way down they would have a pad below.
Fly Free Boomer, we will forever love you.

Thanks for answering Deanna, I didn't get the chance to do anything, got up next morning and they were in the cage, sat on the highest perch and 2 were asleep in their food dishes lol. Had no problems, was surprised, I took them out and they flew to TV and top of fire, then next thing they were up on curtain poles! They sometimes miss their landing and fall, but never hard as they use their wings like crazy to combat the impact, so funny to watch them all, especially when mum and dad are out as well.
