    Re: New cockatiel questions

I think it was the swing we had in the cage. Looking at it closer today, the surface is rough. I"m afraid I might have her his feet. I'm calling the vet again first thing in the morning to see if there's a way to ease the irritation.

I think I made an error. We had a swing that I put in Tyrions cage. I looked at it last night and the perch is very rough. I think the surface iritated Tyrions feet. He spent a ot of time in his cage on tuesday, and I saw him on the swing many times. It's been taken out, and I'm waiting for a call back from the vet.

It may have been one of those sand perch swings. They do have perch like surface swings that are smooth. Try one of those. All birds love their swings! We will watch for updates.

Yeah it was. he is better today, definitely eating more. still dancing around though. I have an apt for him with the vet saturday, to make sure there isnt any infection in the feet. I wish I could get him in sooner, but these days the avian vet is only in a couple days a week.

    Re: New cockatiel questions

The vet called me this afternoon, and we had a long chat. I'm still taking Tyrion in to see him Saturday, but, the vet says it's not life threatening. He thingks it might be leg mites. fully treatable. we shall see what he says Saturday.

i can add spinach and parsley to the list of liked foods, and sweet potato and carrots to the dislike pile. Tyrion's appetite has increased the last 2 days. and he is holding steady at 78 grams. Ill be glad when his feet get treated, he is doing so much dancing, he can't nap easily as before. tomorrow morning!

Poor baby!! I have not heard of mites in the feet. No wonder he is dancing!! . You are feeding an excellent diet to him! As he gets older, he might like those foods he is not too found of right now. We will watch for the vet update.

    Re: New cockatiel questions

Tyrion is absolutely beautiful and Two big Thumbs up on a doing such a great job with an 8 week old. Sorry to jump on this thread so late. Ellen (maxollie) gave you some very solid advice and I am happy that you have a scale. If possible, try weighing Tyrion about the same time each day and record the weight. This is so that in case something does happen, you have an exact record to when his weight started fluctuating. The baby chirps will go away in about 3 to 4 weeks, enjoy them while you can, they are so cute and once the grow a little more, the baby chirps seem to fade away. You are doing an excellent job and keep up with the good work. Please continue with the updates, I love to continue reading about your progress.

Poor baby, I never heard of mites on the feet either. At least your baby is on the road to recovery. So glad that your vet was able to take him in. On the other hand, your in Hawaii and I am in Michigan where everything is banned.. Even taking animals to the vet.

    Re: New cockatiel questions

Vets are considered essential out here. GOod thing, since both birds have seen the vet in the last 2 weeks. the diagnosis isnt leg mites, it was just his thoughts from a phone call. the stomping has stopped now that Tyrion is on antibiotics.

    Re: New cockatiel questions

MJ, consider yourself very lucky vet's are considered essential. My vet has a system to where you have to wait in the car, a vet tech comes out, takes the animal either on a leash or carrier inside and you have a zoom or skype conference with the veterinarian while your in your car. Then you make payment with credit card/ debit card over the phone. I thank my lucky stars that Tango has not required any kind of vet visit.. I call this social distancing at a new level..

Thats what we do as well. Saturday Dr. Ako came out the car instead of the vet tech. It was nice seeing him.
