Is my male being over attentive

    Hi all
So this year i lost my male casanova Percy over yhe winter. Percy was my first male to successfully breed but wasnt hands on at all as he had two females.

This year i have two new males. Hector is being very helpful but not overbearing. Horace on the otherhand seems to spend all day sitting on my female while shes sitting on the eggs. She isnt telling him off but it is just so opposite to previous behaviour i have seen i wondered if this was remotely normal? When she leaves the nest he stays put and they have a clutch of 7 eggs that are just starting to hatch.

    Any advice greatfully received.

First off what kind of birds are these?

Next - this is not unusual if they both are hens. If these are canaries, 7 eggs is a huge clue you have 2 hens and 1 male not 2 males and 1 hen. Now can 1 canary hen lay 7 eggs, yes it can happen but so rare an event that I promise you, you have two hens in the same nest.

Thank you! That is what i thought.

What i thought was a male has since insisted on building another nest and i have just found 3 eggs. I havent seen any of the other hens go near him/her so i can only assume i have a singing hen. Going to have to rename her now as Horace doesnt fit.

I have also found that most of my hens have paired up and shared nests this year so i have ended up with large clutches. Its been a funny year and i have ended up with some very healthy and pretty birds.
