Hi, a common Grackle I have been caring for, for a year now is having a weird problem with his legs. A while ago I noticed there was a smooth pink lump on his inner leg. I originally thought he may have hurt his leg, but I noticed it started getting larger and a bit crusty. Today I notice on his other leg the same kind of pink lump has started to form around the same spot on his other leg. they look like they are where his veins are on his leg. I have also notice he has been losing some feathers around his eyes, I'm not sure if that is realated or if hes just molting. I'm really worried if this is serious please if anyone has any idea of what it could be it would be a huge help. I can't bring him to the vet for a couple days so if theres anything I could do I'm the meantime please let me know. Thank you. I also found another post on here with another common grackle having the same problem. Is this a common problem with grackles? http://www.tailfeathersnetwork.com/c...89-Lump-on-Leg

UPDATE! i went to the vet and found out the lumps are avian pox he now needs Betadine applied to his legs once in the mourning and once at night. They think he may have gotten it from a mosquito bite.

Hi, and welcome to the community. Does your grackle live in an outside aviary, or inside your home in a cage. Looking at the pics, I am wondering if it is an insect bite of some kind. After your vet visit, please post the diagnosis. I do think it is very important the bird see a Vet.
Go to the top of home page and click on gallery. You can post pics there. You will need an online account. There is a website called...tiny pic that is free. They will explain how to upload pics to your gallery.

Awww!! The medicine will heal him. Yes, insects can bite them and give them infection. I admire you completely for taking him to the vet! We will watch for updates!
