Is Cypress safe for my bird?

Hi Everyone.

As the holidays are near, Cypress (Chamaecypaeis law.) in pots are everywhere.
Are they safe for my Cannaries?
I wanted to give them something new and Cypress is everywhere at the moment. I searched the net but could not find anything apart from a single comment to a site stating it was safe.
Does anyone know if it is a safe plant?

False Cypress (Chamaecyparis) is on several 'not safe for birds' lists. I wouldn't use it.
