Is it sure thing when lovebirds mate they will always have babies? Robin (who is definitely male) and Baby Girl did this this afternoon. I've read she'll start to lay eggs in about 7 days and gestation is about 21 23 days. Is this accurate? AND -- what do I do??
It depends upon their age. If they are very young, their reproductive organs may not be ready as yet. I would suggest to just watch them carefully, and if an egg is laid, then get a nest box, put it in the cage, and see what happens. In the meantime do a search for breeding lovebirds, and read all the info you can to prepare for the experience.
I recently went through a similar situation, and I can recommend the book on lovebirds by Rodendale. It's cheap and served me well without inundating me with too much detail.
