Our 8 year old mail loved to fly. Recently he can’t seem to get any height and flies very low and sometimes crashes into things. Has anyone experienced this?
Hi, Janice, and welcome to the community. I would suggest you call an avian vet and take him into the office for a wellness check. I am thinking it could be something neurological, and he needs an evaluation.
Did he fly into anything recently such as the walls, or a window, or a door? Did he have a fall of anykind? It also could be arthritis, but I think that usually is in the legs and feet.

By any chance, did your cockatiel have it's wings trimmed within the past year? My bird has his wings trimmed a couple times of year for his own safety and my peace of mind. When his trimmed flight feathers molt, he will start gaining altitude when the new primary flight feathers grow in. Like yours, mine loves to fly and in the past, he has crashed into windows, furniture, floor and a mirror. If his wings are not trimmed, I agree with Ellen and have your cockatiel be evaluated by an avian vet.

He may have inured himself in a night fright and has hurt his wing or wings. If he is hand friendly try holding him and spreading out one wing at a time to check to see if any are broken or twisted. I know Tikki plays like crazy in his big cage and he hurts himself now and then including his long wing feathers.
