Chilly tiel
Hey tailfeathers,
Everyone has told me to make sure that your tiel doesn't get cold or is placed in a breezy area. But my question is what happens to them if they do get cold? Just wondering

Re: Chilly tiel
they get chilled which depresses their immune system wich makes them MUCH more likely to get sick. If they are kept in a place with a draft, they WILL get sick, it's a matter of time

Re: Chilly tiel
In the wintertime especially; dry, drafty cold air is difficult on birds. It dries out their nasal passages which lead directly to their airsacs. It makes them a walking time bomb for an upper respitory infection. Its important to keep them out of the way of not only drafts, but of the direct draft of heaters as well for the same reason. Its always good to have a humidifier or even an aquarium in the room to keep the air from getting too dry in climates that get really cold.

I'm a ditz aquariums like help with humidity? So you can get fish and it can help? I've been thinking about getting fish lately.

Re: Chilly tiel
Or you can just sit out some water with a large surface area, if you don't want the uptake that comes with fish. My grandmother always has this big old kettle pot thing which she keeps on her heater in the living room (OLD I don't know what the thing is called).

Re: Chilly tiel
Wow. I never realized the aquarium would actually help the birds. It just so happens we have a huge aquarium (only one fish though) that is near the birds' cage. We also have a ton of fountains. My roommate loves fountains and we must have about 8-10 in the living room alone.
